Stillness in Movement: a deep dive into Qi Gong
The Yi Jin Jing Qi Gong was designed by Bodhidharma, the founder of Chan/Zen
Buddhism to enable monks of the Shaolin Temple to sit in meditation for long periods. It also became the “secret method” to empower the monk’s Kung Fu. Many people think of Qi Gong as a set of movements for health. It is so much more than that. True Qi Gong can be done standing still, sitting, or even laying down and can lead to deep states of meditation and profound longevity.
This workshop will introduce you to the principle of movement within stillness and stillness within movement.
We will cover:
An intellectual understanding from first hand experience of what Qigong is and how to practice it.
Relaxing Tendons, Floating Bones - Open and release tension from head to toe with a simple set of movements.
Sitting Qi Gong - Developing relaxed concentration through a seated posture and “Kidney Breathing.”
Yi Jin Jing - Nourish your muscles, tendons, and organs through 24 different sophisticated exercises that align the body and move the qi, while remaining in stillness developed from the seated practice.
Post Standing Qi Gong - Develop an awareness of the inside of your body, align your posture, and become deeply centered through holding a static stance.
Advice for creating a daily practice.
When we are still, we can direct the movement of qi with our mind, creating movement within stillness. When we move, we can rest our mind in open awareness, allowing stillness within movement. If we practice diligently, we can experience stillness within the movement of life and a flourishing inner life of movement, even when we are still.

Primal Nature Masterclass
Join us for a four-hour Primal Nature Masterclass where we’ll dive deep into the power of breath, movement, awareness, and ice baths.
In western society we’ve come to accept as normal an utterly novel phenomenon: a life devoid of physical demands but saturated with psychological stress. This is the exact opposite of the context in which our ancestors have evolved to thrive over the course of millions of years, and the effects are being made painfully clear: physical afflictions that include autoimmune disease, metabolic disorders, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, paired with psychological challenges such as endemic stress, anxiety, and depression that only make matters worse.
The good news is that with careful attention to cutting-edge scientific research, enriched by the ancestral knowledge of spiritual traditions from around the world, we can learn to tap into the ancient reserves of vitality and strength that are lying dormant in all of us.
We’ll learn how to safely and effectively apply protocols proven to increase the density and efficacy of your mitochondria, promote neurogenesis, counteract anxiety or stress, and even lengthen your telomeres. It may sound like magic, like some kind of miracle drug, but all we’re doing is cutting away at the layers of inertia and lethargy and stifling comfort that we’ve come to accept as normal. Remember:
"The lust for comfort murders the passion of the soul."

Master Class with Stephanie Phelan
The May 7th session theme is Contentment. “We have a habit of waiting to 'be ourselves’ until we’ve accomplished this never-ending to-do list of things that will make us ‘better’. Well the truth is you will always be you, and you can either continue to disregard your awesomeness in favor of reaching towards something you think you are supposed to be, or appreciate it, love it, and be the best you can be right now!’
The yoga practice is 90 minutes, which allows sufficient time to deepen into each pose, more time for back bending, inversions and final relaxation, Savasana, so you can truly experience peace-of-mind while gaining more strength, focus and flexibility.
Mini Retreat with Christy Brown
Join us to celebrate the approaching end of winter and revisit intentions made at the beginning of the year!
At our last mini retreat (on December 31st, 2022), all 22 of us tied seven knots into a red string that we then tied onto each other's wrists during our closing circle. Red string bracelets are traditional in Buddhism, Christianity and Kabbalah (esoteric Jewish mysticism). Each knot corresponded with a question:
What's your deepest, most heartfelt wish or desire for yourself and your life?
Is there a mental/emotional/behavioral pattern that no longer serves your highest wellbeing that you could release, to create space for the new?
Is there a fear you could release? (Yin Yoga hip opener, side one)
Is there another fear you could release? (Yin Yoga hip opener, side two)
What helps you cultivate a general sense of gratitude, and how can you bring more of this into your life?
What is your greatest wish for the world?
Is there someone for whom you feel challenging or negative emotion? Can you send loving-kindness and compassion toward that person?
We'll revisit these questions and other intentions we may have made at the start of the year. We'll also explore the Buddhist theme: The Wish Fulfilling Jewel.
Workshop for Teens: Embodied and Empowered
Join for a sacred, shared journey of empowerment through the practice of yoga. Learn how to navigate stress, anxiety, honor your innate wisdom and live from an embodied, empowered place of self confidence and self care to express yourself truly, deeply.
Class will include discussion, Q&A and Yoga practice! Girls will leave feeling emboldened, able to face life with strength and confidence; be secure in their vulnerability and courage.
